Peach Melba Oceana Hat

I knit this Oceana hat for two reasons:
- Look at that beautiful diamond mesh stitching! The pattern is a winner.
- The pattern author, Cali (Willoughby Way Designs and @throwstyler on Instagram), is donating all of the pattern proceeds to the organization Oceana, which works to preserve the world’s oceans.
Needless to say, whenever a fabulous pattern is combined with a good cause, I’m in!
For this pattern I used a tubular cast on, which works perfectly for 1 x 1 ribbing because it gives the appearance that the ribbing is simply continued from the underside, rendering a nice, clean edge. The diamond mesh is feminine, sweet and perfect for a little girl, so accordingly, this hat is for my daughter. I wanted to go with a yarn suited for my Sophie, and while it is a fall/winter hat, I also wasn’t ready to abandon the summer vibes. When I came across this Peach Melba colorway by Manos del Uruguay (Maxima Multi yarn), it was a no brainer–the perfect choice for this hat!
This yarn’s multi-tonal personality made the pink and orange appear differently depending on the…Lighting? Mood? It looked consistently amazing, that’s for sure.
The pattern allows for two different decrease styles: slouchy or with a pompom. I let Sophie choose the style she liked better, so as you can see, we went with the pompom. (She also requested that it be pink, so voila.)
And now I must have one of these for myself…
