Hozuki Hat

This hat has all the slouch! It’s the kind of hat you throw on for a laid back, comfortable style that won’t flatten your hair. Yet the design detail keeps it interesting and fun.

The Hozuki Hat pattern is a design by Maiko Hikosaka, who I consider a dear friend. You can find her on Instagram as @hikozoart, and the Hozuki pattern can be purchased from her Ravelry store here.

For me, this project served as an introduction to the brioche pearl stitch, and Maiko’s well written instructions made it easy to learn. I love the two-color dotted look of this stitch, which works marvelously with the
color changing yarn and the diamond-like shapes that venture up one side of the hat.

Inexplicably, Hozuki is my first instance of using Spincycle Yarns. For this hat I used their Dyed in the Wool base in the colorway “Cataclysm.” Isn’t that green gorgeous?! For my main color I used some leftover Old Rusted Chair Sock in the colorway “Mineral,” which is a light silvery gray.

I think my favorite shade of green in this hat is the emerald…no! The grassy green…no! The mossy green! It’s all so so good.
