Corona Bunny

I knit a pink stuffed bunny a long time ago for a baby-to-be, and I always planned to knit another one for me and my family. I had used a pattern that wasn’t especially fun to knit and that had required a lot of sewing.

This time around, I used a far better pattern, and it was an absolute delight to knit!

Pattern: Christopher Bunny and Christopher Bunny’s Garter Hoodie + Tiny Bunny, both by Susan B. Anderson

Yarn: Ontheround Everyday Worsted in colorways Caribou, Robin’s Egg, Sugar Maple and Hemlock

My Ravelry project page for my Corona Bunny, which includes exact yardage used, can be viewed here.

There was no better time for me to knit a bunny rabbit than during this coronavirus pandemic. The news has been growing increasingly grim and fearful since the start of the outbreak, and I’ve found it hard to keep my spirits up. Fortunately, time at home with my two kids has been wonderful, and I’ve taken great comfort in knitting. Specifically, with Easter right around the corner, this pattern proved to be the perfect uplifting recipe. This little guy gives me great joy!

The Christopher Bunny pattern comes with directions for knitting the bunny (complete with floppy ears and a wee round tail), a colorwork sweater and striped pants. The second pattern is supplementary and includes directions for the garter hoodie and tiny bunny. I knit the entire bunny using Ontheround Everyday Worsted. What a treat! I used the colorway Caribou for the bunny and tiny bunny; Robin’s Egg for the main color of the sweater and pants; Sugar Maple for the second color of the sweater and pants and for the hoodie pompom; and Hemlock for the garter hoodie. The orange buttons are from my grandmother’s button jar.

What have you been knitting during the coronavirus pandemic? Has it helped ease your anxiety? I have one additional skein of Ontheround Everyday Worsted in the Caribou colorway and would like to spread the love and send it to someone, free of charge. For this mini giveaway, simply leave a comment below, any comment. I will use a RNG to determine a winner on Easter Sunday, April 12th at 12:00 PM CST. Good luck!

So cute! Darn, now I’m mad at myself that I didn’t think to knit these for Easter baskets a little earlier, I’m not going to kid myself to think that I could get two done this late in the game 😂🤣 Happy Easter to you and yours!!

    1. Maybe you could knit a smaller bunny? Also, Susan B. Anderson has these amazing reversible toys. I knit Alligator to Egg for my son a long time ago. It’s small and knits up fast! I might knit the Turtle to Frog one soon…

This is just so adorable. I love it. I’m made bears before, but never a bunny. They are usually a lot of work so I’d love to try this patterm

    1. With this pattern there is very little sewing, so that’s nice. The ears and other appendages are knit directly off the body by picking up stitches. It’s brilliant!

Thank you so much for your gift of Swallowtail, it’s AMAZING!! 😍 (But I’ll admit, it was a tough competition to choose it or Hyphenated! 💖 😅) Super cute bunny you’ve made. Please stay safe & well! 💗

I’ve been making masks for a group “Sewing for Angels”that is distributing them to nursing homes, clinics, etc that are unable to obtain any. I still have my online nursing classes with students, and I’m knitting in the evenings🙃

    1. That’s so great! I’ve sewn a couple of masks but need to make more.

I haven’t had much time to knit with everyone being home and trying to figure out school, but I have been trying to finish up some UFOs that have been sitting around far too long! I love your bunny! I’ve been wanting to make one for a while now!

    1. I’ve got so many UFO’s to catch up on! Now that the bunny is done maybe I can get around to those.
